Intoxication of 76 children by chlorine gas.

A collective intoxication with chlorine gas in 76 children (21 males, 55 females; the median age was 9.9 years) is reported. They were treated with a combination of oxygen gas (O2) and corticosteroids until the symptoms disappeared.

Inhalation of chlorine gas.

The clinical features of acute chlorine gas inhalation, and its management are reviewed. Current medical views on the chronic effects of an acute overwhelming exposure on lung function (reactive airways dysfunction syndrome), and the more controversial field of lung disease secondary to repeated inhalations of lower concentrations of chlorine gas are discussed.

Chemical burns in children caused by wipes.

Attention is drawn to a particularly dangerous party activity. Balloons filled with lighter gas so as to float are used for party decorations. A case of hand burn caused by accidentally lighting such a balloon with a cigarette is reported. The method is strongly advised against, it is a much better idea to use helium for such purposes.
